This course has been designed out of a need for a coding course that is affordable and can give someone with a basic medical background an opportunity to learn the nuts and bolts of coding. This course is especially relevant for the medical office worker who wants to advance their skills and knowledge.

This is a self study program with active support by certified coders who have previously taught coding classes in various settings.

At the end of this course you will be able to code in a medical setting and will have the knowledge to take (and pass) the PAHCS Medical Coding Certification exam and become a PAHCS certified coder with a CMCS.

PAHCS teaches Coding and Critical Thinking skills

Critical thinking skills are required for coding and reimbursement specialists. Critical thinking is the ability to analyze a task, situation or scenario from a critical viewpoint by asking the following questions:

  • Who is doing the procedure?
  • What procedure is being done?
  • Where is it being performed?
  • Why is it being done?
  • When was it done?

Not always will answers be readily available in printed material.  There will be times when you will need to use common sense and further investigation to code correctly.
